Online Facilitator Development

Aim

The aim of this training is to increase skills for those who are required to deliver training using digital platforms. Previous experience at presentations is beneficial, but not essential. Trainee-facilitators will learn how to present using the Zoom platform, although applicable to other platforms. They will understand the need to adapt face-to-face training approaches to keep participants engaged when online.

The comprehensive programme is appropriate to all involved in adult learning, whatever subject they teach and can be used to provide evidence towards a teaching qualification. In fact, the Online Facilitator Development Programme includes registration for the Level 3 Award in Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches. This is a 6- credit unit, 50% of the full Award in Education and Training (AET).

Structure of programme

The trainer facilitation programme is six-hours long. It is delivered over three 90-minute blocks in one day, followed by an assessment block to be completed within two weeks.

Block 1: Introduction to Remote Delivery (90-minutes)

Block 2: Teaching Approaches & Virtual Tools (90-minutes)

Block 3: Session Planning (90-minutes)

Following the 3 x 90-minute blocks, trainee-facilitators will return to deliver a 15-minute live delivery to their assessor and a small group of peers. The topic can be on any subject and should showcase the trainee-facilitator’s ability to deliver an interactive session. Preparation will be through self-directed leaning, with access to tutorial support.

Block 4: Delivery and Assessment (90 minutes)

Each trainee-facilitator will be required to deliver a pre-prepared 15-minute session, that includes use of visual aids and demonstrates assessment processes. Each trainee-facilitator will be required to reflect on their own delivery and identify areas for improvement. They will also demonstrate that they can provide constructive feedback to their peers.
