Reducing Resistance to Essential Care - Remote Delivery
Reducing Resistance to Essential Care (RREC) is a recognised approach, developed to address the ethical dilemma of when to provide essential care to individuals who may lack capacity. It becomes even more complex when the urgency for care or treatment, is met with increasing resistance towards the carers trying to carry out the task.
With strong links to the NAPPI Positive Behaviour Support Model, RREC provides employees with dementia-specific strategies to assist recognise, and reduce, levels of resistance. Strategies, that they can apply immediately upon their return to work.
Add Dementia Awareness training, because the more employees are aware about how an individual has been affected by dementia, the more that can be done to reduce resistance, thus improving their quality of life.
Remote Delivery differs from conventional e-learning, as groups engage with a live trainer. It is a cost-effective and easy to access approach, meeting the needs of organisations large and small.

Every effort is made to avoid physical skills, but clearly care staff have a responsibility of duty of care to keep service users safe from harm, whilst also respecting their right of choice to refuse treatment. However, if deemed in their best interest, this right can be overruled when an individual lacks capacity to make the decision themselves.
