When Harri met NAPPI

Harriet Corp's career began as a beauty therapist - until she realised that what she really loved about changing people's lives was more than just skin deep.

"I liked making people feel good about themselves, rather than just the beauty treatments," she explained.

It sparked a switch to the care industry, where she started out as a support worker for both adults and children with learning disabilities. She then moved into the education sector where she worked as a tutor in a specialist college for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

"Mum worked in a care home for people with learning disabilities where I use to help, so I was used to the environment," she explained.

Harriet - also known as Harri - worked at Condover College in her native Shrewsbury for six years, starting as a learning support assistant before qualifying as a tutor and a curriculum co-ordinator.

She completed a NAPPI Train the Trainer course and immediately saw the benefits of the company's ethos - so much so that she later joined it.

"I really see the benefit of using NAPPI principles and how it enriches people's lives as much as possible to reduce stress by preventing behaviours of concern," she added.

"I worked with someone in his early 20s who was showing behaviours of concern regularly. We applied the principles and a consistent approach. We enriched his life with work experience, getting involved with social activities and developing life skills - and the incidents reduced," said Harri.

Since joining NAPPI in January 2019 she has used her experience in education to work with colleges and schools across the UK, training staff and helping them implement behaviour management strategies.

Harriet welcomes the new Ofsted framework, which will put a greater emphasis on behaviour and personal development and less on test results.

"This links closely with NAPPI methods, including our new PBS Cloud online portal - and we hope to show new and existing school and college clients how it can help them record, analyse, and improve behaviour," she explained. "It is an area where NAPPI uk can really offer expertise."

Away from work Harri likes adventure - including hiking, and mountain climbing. She is pictured on Pen yr Ole Wen in Snowdonia.

Highlights of her exploits include scaling a snowy 4000m tall Mount Toubkal in Morocco raising £1100 for a hospice, and she has an ambition to tackle Kilimanjaro in the future.

She has also completed the Great North Swim in Windermere for the Mencap charity and enjoys F1 motor racing with her partner Rob, who is a mechanic in the Renault team.
