BILD accredited Expert-by-Experience - the end of an era

In 2013, NAPPI became the first training provider to be represented during the BILD reaccreditation process by an Expert-by-Experience. Tony from Nottingham impressed the BILD panel by explaining his personal experience of the NAPPI model of Positive Behaviour Support.

In 2016, Tony became the first Expert-by-Experience to be acknowledged by BILD as an Accredited Trainer, delivering modules on his personal view of Positive Behaviour Support and his involvement in developing a training partnership. His accreditation was maintained until the closure of the scheme in June 2019.

"The development of a service user to achieve the status of trainer, at a pace dictated by the service user with skilled and sensitive use of support, is an exemplary piece of work that could serve as a model for other organisations." (BILD assessor, 8 June 2016).

Tony has often said that gaining his BILD accreditation was one of the most important things he had achieved. See what Tony has to say about the end of the scheme here.

Like many former BILD PIAS training providers NAPPI uk are in transition and officially classed as "working towards" certification under the newly formed BILD Association of Certified Training. Approval of trainers against the RRN training standards requires them to deliver training from an approved curriculum - with only courses containing restrictive practices being approved.

It is naturally disappointing that Tony will not be able to continue as before, although his passion for changing lives continues.

The end of an era perhaps, but not the end of the road!
