Spotlight on - Sally Baron

Sally Baron loves helping her husband to set clues for brain teasing walking treasure hunts which lead people on mysterious meandering pathways around her native Scarborough.

But by day she keeps NAPPI uk firmly on track to meet its training goals as the backbone of the company's back office.

Sally is the second longest serving member of staff - after managing director Helen Tait - having joined in February 1998.

"I live on the same road as Helen, who I know, and when a member of office staff went off to Africa for six weeks I was asked to do a 'couple of hours a week' filing and making training manuals," she explained.

The former hairdresser, who took a career break to bring up her children, gradually increased hours and responsibilities to become full-time training co-ordinator and office manager, a dual role she has held for around 15 years.

It involves working with director of operations Scott Edwards to schedule courses around the UK, including booking venues, and accommodation.

"No two days are ever the same, which I love. And because I have been dealing with some clients for many years you form a rapport with them," said Sally

"We also like to support new trainers, have a chat with them and encourage them to drop in if they are in the area. It is nice to see how they are progressing and to get positive feedback about how their work is going. It is great to know that NAPPI is really making a difference to people's lives."

Like all NAPPI employees, she has completed the Training of Trainer programme and has assisted on several training events over the years.

Sally, whose children are now grown up, spends a lot of her spare time enjoying "grandma" duties with her four grandchildren.

Her treasure hunt role supports Scarborough's Our Community shop, where husband Andrew is a trustee and which raises funds for local causes included Scouts and sports teams for people with disabilities.

Their other passion is cruise holidays, which have included the Caribbean, Norwegian fjords, Indian Ocean, Canary Islands and - her favourite - the Panama Canal.

The rest of the year is spent helping keep NAPPI ship shape.
