Mental Capacity Act & DOLS Course Comments
Below is recent feedback received from our course participants. Participants were asked what things will they do differently in their job as a result of the training: It is made me reflect on my current practice. I will share my knowledge with colleagues I have become more confident in the subject and gained a great deal more knowledge. I will look forward to training this very valuable course in the future. I am much more aware of the Act/implications for our own organisation/service users. Updated course to be delivered across the company, roll out the acid test to all.

I really like the updates course. It feels more interactive and much more interesting for staff Will make me go back and evaluate what I am currently doing to see what changes I could implement. It has given me the confidence and ability to begin training the MCa and DoLS to new staff.
Given the knowledge to question some areas/practices within my company. I feel more confident in the subject and due to the excellent type of delivery, I will be able to take the knowledge gained and demonstrated to inform others. Has developed my knowledge and Skills to share with my team.
Today has identifed the bridge between my understanding and the way I deliver this training to all levels of my staff. This will now change how I deliver the training to staff. Felt the course was more practical and relevant to our service. I have a greater understanding and feel more confident in putting MCA/DOLs into practice.
Brilliant Trainer! I will be able to learn other staff new and old the information about dols and mental capacity ad they will be able to put it into practice. I will be going back to the organisation with recommendations that need to be overtaken. I will be confident when delivering this course to clients throughout the country. Valuable for implementing MCA and DOLS throughout the care planning process and a useful training aid for staff. Will give me more confidence as a registered manager to present MCA/DOLS confidently. It has given me useful techniques to deliver effectively.
It has given me more confidence. It has given me confidence to pass on the information to my team, and put DoLS/MCA into practice. I will change my training practice, this is less complicated and therefore my students are more likely to retain and use the knowledge. I will use the new information from the course and retrain staff with the new elements. This links with some of the training I deliver. It gives me an insight and allows me tools to confidently answer questions asked during training sessions. I will consider capacity, best interests and participation on a daily basis in my practice Confidence and knowledge to teach others within the organisation. I have been working with MCA and DoLS at work, this has improved my knowledge. I will now be able to teach and explain this to other staff in my workplace. I now feel more confident in this area. Better information to cascade to staff.
Least restrictive option scale will be used throughout the service. Will devise an assessment chart for my residents based on the DoLS 6 assessments to ensure I am following Best Practice regarding Deprivation of Liberties until registration comes into practice. Making sure the relevant paperwork is in place for the clients. MCA and DOLS and ensuring the correct processes are in place. I also im aware on when DOLS is and is not required. Hopefully help me protect people and put safety measures into place . Ask further questions. Request evidence of paperwork. Awareness of what we do and what we are doing is correct. Has made us think more about each individual also look for potential deprivation.
Review each client. Given me the knowledge of how the MCA/DOLS affects my practice and when DOLS need to be applied for. Awareness of MCA and DOLS impact on our students. Better understanding of my responsibility. I will reflect on my own practice. Much more aware of the implications and the processes behind the MCA. I have become more reflective as a result of this course. gives clear guidelines to both MCA and DoLs which helps me understand and how to support in the correct way. As a transition course it has given me a greater understanding of the MCA and Dols.
I will certainly be doing more research. Just make you think how to approach certain situations and giving individuals the support catered to their needs and rights. When working with students I will be more aware of the individual needs and not make assumptions. It has made me more aware of the more intricate details of the law/requirements including especially with regard to DOLS. It will make me ask questions and DIG to ensure best practice. I have a greater understanding of the MCA and this will ensure the students are able to be supported to make decisions.
I will now record a lot more information regarding DOLS and ensure people rights are not taken away. Better understanding of what we can do and cant do with regards to our students, particularly in relation to restraint. I will be a lot more confident to question procedures. Clarity around the functional testing and the Acid test has been useful.I have questioned my own practice. I am better informed and feel more confident to ask questions of the appropriate people. I can better support the students. Think as a service we need to look at who we are asking to sign paperwork. I have a greater understanding. It has questioned what I do and I will be more reflective in my practice. Has increased my knowledge in particular in the ways we may deprive someone of that liberty. Has made me more aware of the MCA and DOLS. Will help my practice. Acid test very interesting and relative to our environment, very interesting. More in depth info on the MCA Acid test very interesting. More aware of the parameters that I need to work with in relation to the MCA more aware of how students need to be supported with the deprivation of liberty. Needs more discussion now within our organisation and review our policies. Review all practices and authorizations around DOLS. Will redefine my presentations and input for learners.
I will be compeltely re-hashing my current training packages. Reevaluate certain sessions utilising refreshed skills/styles of learning over last two days

Enjoyed the tutors engaging style. Delivery of training and increased understanding around DoLs as a named safeguarding professional Look into why certain reactions are made at work. Develop our policy and procedure documents. I will manage better group work (using examples).
Use the audience more to let them come up with answers. Q&A at the end. I will deliver this training as a separate course, and I think it made me understand MCA and BLLS. I have definitely improved my knowledge on the authorisation process. As a trainer I feel it was very good reflection of skills. I feel comfortable to deliver first training in MCA and DOLS. Unexpected advice on presentation techniques, hints and tips will be valuable. Develop workshops in MCA/DoLS for locality teams and adult teams in Knowsley.
Have more confidence in delivering this training. Has given me a better insight into what is involved in the decision making process and allowed me to understand more clearly when and where to use mental capacity assessments and best interest. Encourage staff to talk through their thought processes - prompt them to answer their own questions.
Deliver the training. I will need to re assess parts of my teaching practices. Share knowledge with staff, having more confidence in delivery of information on MCA & DoLS. More inclusive use of group work and discussion in training sessions. Teach "Making Decisions" as a title rather than "Mental Capacity" and keep it simple. Deliver training with more confidence and understanding. Create cribcards and audio of trainer script to maximise credibility ahead of training at Nottingham and Liverpool in June.
Pre-prepare flip charts of information that does not need to be added on the day - this will aid my memory of the journey through the course.
